To Gena Holmes, being part of the Lehigh Valley community is more than living here; it’s about getting involved, supporting the well-being of others, and being a part of a village that is equally as committed to those goals. In her search for that village, she found New Bethany’s Board of Directors, where she shares her passion for lifting neighbors up in a community dedicated to creating change.
Gena brings an impressive history of supporting the community to the board through her work as a community school coordinator. Every day, she works to remove barriers to students’ and families’ academic, social and emotional success in the Bethlehem area. Through her profession, she came across New Bethany, which has been an incredible resource and partner in helping families navigate the challenges of housing instability and find the safety, security and consistency they need to thrive
“Every human at any age deserves to be supported and empowered in times of need. New Bethany does just that, in the most effective and caring way possible,” Gena believes. “What could be more important than cultivating hope in today’s world?”
Since joining the board, Gena has become the new chair of the Nominating Committee, helping New Bethany connect individuals and organizations interested in serving on the board of directors. It’s a natural fit for Gena and her expertise, and she considers this role an exciting honor to further New Bethany’s mission and expand its effectiveness.
“I’m excited to create sustainable systems of support that provide long- and short-term solutions for every community in our footprint,” she said.
When she’s not making our community a better place, Gena loves spending time with her family, going for walks with her dog, and volunteering throughout the Lehigh Valley. She’s also proud to have earned her scuba diving certification in the Great Barrier Reef while studying abroad in Australia.
