Joseph* and his girlfriend, Carla, reached out to New Bethany in January, seeking rental assistance for arrears dating back to September and November. Both had fallen behind on expenses due to health-related challenges. Carla was hospitalized for six weeks due to shingles, while Joseph spent two months in a mental health facility.

Despite their hospitalizations, they managed to stay current on their rent payments but struggled to cover past due balances. Their landlords, a husband-and-wife team, were understanding of the situation and willing to work with New Bethany to prevent Joseph, Carla and her children from losing their home.

Thanks to the support of our rental assistance program, New Bethany was able to provide $4,620 to cover the outstanding rent. Both Joseph and Carla expressed their deep gratitude for the assistance. Joseph has since taken the initiative to work with our case manager, Kelly Brown, to enroll with a mental health provider and apply for mainstream benefits.
